During my two years spent at Sam Houston State University Campus Recreation Marketing, I served as both lead Graphic Designer and Marketing Supervisor. I was very lucky to have learned and exercised skills such as managing multiple projects, cross-platform Adobe processes, photo manipulation, corporate branding, and so much more. In an authoritative position, I also had the fantastic opportunity to practice leadership through developing both short and long-term marketing plans, guiding team discussions, and pitching new ideas towards improving the department across marketing our programs. This is just a small glimpse of the many projects I had the pleasure of developing!
Our Brand
The development and solidification of the Campus Rec Brand was a push and pull process. Our department was deemed as “not quite student activities, but not quite athletics either.” It was hard to define because we had something for everyone: Spirit, Intramural Sports, Club Sports, Aquatics, Outdoors, Facilities, Fitness, Esports, and (of course) Marketing! Being in between two different brand identities (student activities + athletics), Campus Rec was a middle child that I wanted to make feel seen. I developed this handbook and brand identity system with our main goal in mind: to better enhance student wellbeing, foster community, and promote health through inclusive programs and facilities.
